The Towell Family

Photographing 3 generations is always a sweet experience. I am someone who deeply values my extended family. Growing up, holidays were always so joyful because it was cousins, uncles, aunts, and my grandparents. My Mimi and Bobo (my dad’s parents) were central to my life. Their home was where we all came together for birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and so on. That physical house came to signify everything restful and comforting to me: childlike excitement on Christmas morning, filling my plate to the brim on Thanksgiving, laughing with my cousins as my goofy uncle chased me around the kitchen, a snug and long hug from my Mimi who always told me how much she loved me. I know that not everyone gets to have a family like mine. And with that knowledge, I am especially thankful for the time I had with my Mimi and Bobo. They have now both passed on, and I honestly still miss them so much, but seeing kids enjoy their grandparents renews my spirit and reminds me to be thankful for the time I did have with them.

This family is extraordinarily close. Spending time with them for just an hour showed me that. They love each other deeply and they laugh so much together. They are 100% themselves when they’re together, and that is something special. Reminds me of how family has always been for me as well.
